Ice Skating

Hi!

I'm sorry I haven't written for a while. It's just... I don't feel like writing. Strange things are happening, like, I got asked out by a boy! In the year above! How are these things happening to me? Things like that just don't happen to me. My syn is normal, average. Except when I was ice skating today with my friends, someone put some classical music on and the colored music on the white ice was so beautiful. Until I fell over.

Anyway, I must go. I will write later, I promise!

Scaredy-Cat

Hello, everyone.

It's official. I am such a wimp. I WAS going to tell my parents this weekend about my syn. I really was. I had printed out articles and everything, figured out what I was going to say and... didn't do anything. I just couldn't. I didn't want to ruin their happy bubble of my good grades, good news of my uncle coming out of hospital and christmas coming. So, I just didn't tell them. I am going to tell them sometime... just not soon.

Whatever shall I do??

Interview- I'm popular!

Hello,

You'll never guess what! Someone wants to interview me (over the web) about my synaesthesia! I feel so cool.
My math exam is today. Errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!! Not looking forward to it! Under 10 days to the Christmas holidays! I'm so excited. I'm going to visit my aunt and cousins and the whole of my dad's family is going to be there. It will be really fun, but I admit I'm a bit worried that I might say something syn related and people will find out. My uncle is very religious so he might think I'm infected by the devil or something. (that may sound crazy, but that's something he would think). I'm planning on telling my parents this weekend so I'm a bit worried on what they'll think. My mum will probably take in all in her stride, but my dad will think I'm a bit weird. Hopefully they'll take it well.
Enough of me wittering on! I really should start revising math.

Found another

Hello!

How are you? I'm so excited because exams are nearly over! All I have tomorrow is math, and that's at two o'clock so after assembly I can go back to bed.
You'll never guess what! I was on the MigSig netword (synaesthesia network) and someone left me a comment saying they would like to interview me! I feel so special. Also, I was having my piano lesson and my teacher was playing a piece for me to see if I liked it, and I said absentmindedly, 'this song has such pretty colors' and he said 'what did you say?' and I replied 'you know, it's all periwinkle blues and lavenders' and he's like 'do you see the colors, too?' and I'm thinking, He sees colors too! I found another synnie! I'm not alone! Yayyyyyyyyyyyyy!!! And then he kept asking me what the different colors were on the piano, and we had completely different colors and it was so cool discussing it with him.
I love talking about my colors with someone who understands and doesn't look at me like I'm a freak. It's like you can be completely yourself and not worry that you might say something syn related. It's like a breath of fresh air.
Anyway, I should really be off. I have to revise for math tomorrow. :(

Found somewhere to talk

Hello, everyone (or no one, as the case may be)

I can talk to people with synaestheia! yaayyyyy! I'm not alone!

Anyway, I have found out I have another type of syn I hadn't noticed before. North, south, east west, have a kind of map to me. North is about a foot directly in front of me, east is about a foot to my right, south is about a foot behind me and west is about a foot to my left. They have colors, as well!

Well, enough of being happy. I have exams tomorrow and I am really not looking forward to them. I've got 3 sciences, Spanish and Latin. Aren't I a lucky girl. I should really be getting back to my revision now, anyway.

Told someone

Hello, again!

I'm back! Today I finally told someone about my syn. This boy at school, called Kade (Kade, but sort of swirly/marbled) I asked him if he though letters had colors. He said 'ohh, what's that called? that's synaestheia, isn't it? i saw a program on it'. And then it all sort of came out. It turned out that he may have sound-->taste synaestheia. But maybe not. Anyway, he promised not to tell anyone. If people knew, they'd call me a freak. The Girl with the Colors. That's sort of what happened in the book 'A Mango Shaped Space'.
I don't know what to do. I feel so alone. I wish I could talk to someone else who has colors. I don't want to lose them, but I wish I could talk to someone else about them. If anyone who has synaestheia is out there reading this, I would love to talk to you.

Starting Off

Hello! My name is Melanie (you can call me Melly) and I am living with synaesthesia. Umm, what's that? you ask. Simply, synaestheia is the mixing of the senses. Colored alphabets, numbers with personalities and color, seeing color when music is played or sounds happen are just a few different types of synaestheia. Anyway, now introductions are out of the way, I'm going to tell you a little about moi. (But not enough to do the crazy stalker thing). I'm thirteen, I live in ... well, that's not important. I speak English (obviously) and I have synaestheia. My alphabet is colored:

And so are my numbers:

They also have personalities e.g
1 Nice, popular, male
2 could be popular, but is too busy trying to keep everyone from fighting, v. nice, female
3 mean, snappy, not popular, male
4 quiet, but mean if you speak to him, male
5 nice, but brisk, very independent, takes pity on 6, female
6 quiet, but nice, male
7 want to be popular, big mouth, friends with 9. male
8 average, nice, but extremely popular, female
9 "queen bee", thinks she's better then everyone else, popular, female

I also see colors and shapes in my mind's eye when music plays or certain sounds happen, e.g. violins have a scratchy red color with scratchy lines.
